What are the visa and entry requirements?

Visas are not required for citizens of the United States, the United Kingdom, most Caribbean countries, British Commonwealth countries, as well as most members of the European Union. Other nationals will need to obtain a Visitor Permit through the Belizean Consulate or Embassy. A moderate fee is charged for the Visitors Permit and applicants must demonstrate that they have sufficient funds for their stay, as well as return ticket.

Visitors are issued typically 30 days entry visas and can extend their stay indefinitely by obtaining a local stamp/visa for US$25 per month. Once you have resided in Belize for any 12 month period where you can show that you have not been outside Belize for more than a cumulative period of 14 days, you are eligible to apply for residency. If over the age of 45 you may apply for a permanent residency from outside or within Belize under the retirement program.
